Contrary to popular belief, success does not come overnight! That’s right, I said it, there is no such thing as an ‘overnight success.’ Many millennials have been sold the idea that glitz, glam and success can come in an instant. Just like easy mac or same day delivery, people want things fast and simplified. However, you can’t just pour water on your dreams, pop them in a microwave and eat em’ up in three-point-five minutes. Dreams are more like a full course meal, they take time and preparation, many need to simmer and stew. Yes, we live in a fast-paced world, fueled by technological innovations that intensify ones need for instant gratification. However, do not be fooled! Success is a building process. Every winning moment and achieved goal should elevate you closer to your ultimate dreams, however getting there will take time. For some, success may appear to have happened overnight, but odds are, you are only seeing the end result of hard work. You must have patience, when striving for long term dreams and goals. Most of us have heard the saying “Rome wasn’t built overnight,” well, this expression is definitely appropriate when dreaming big and aiming for success! Dreams will not magically manifest themselves overnight. You must pick-away at the dream, day-by-day-by-day.
Try this out for size, think about who you are as person right now, in this very moment. How did you become this person? How did you get to this moment in time? Every success, every failure, every challenge, obstacle, friends and family, all of these things have aided in shaping, forming and creating the person you are today. Now ask yourself this, who do you want to become? What type of success are you aiming for? What future moments need to happen, to get you where you want to be in life? If you understand how moments of the past have shaped who you are today, you can start envisioning what moments in the future need to happen for you to get where you want to be!
“If you understand how moments of the past have shaped who you are today, you can start envisioning what moments in the future need to happen for you to get where you want to be!”
Once you have a vision and understanding for what you need to do, start crossing off goals. Achieving dreams and big goals is kind of like climbing a mountain. You want to get to the top right? Well, every footstep, whether it be a small step or giant leap counts, together they add up and will get you to the pinnacle. In life, every achieved goal, whether it be big or small, should be a step in the right direction, a step that will help you reach the pinnacle of your dream. The key is planning. You know where you are headed, you see the top of the mountain, but you must map out a route to the top. Find the path that works with your life and start climbing. Start crossing off small goals and continue to build on old ones, that will lead you to your dream.
Now remember, it is a journey and there will be obstacles along the way. However, in many cases these obstacles or ‘setbacks’ will give you more “winning insights” than you could have ever imagined. Think about that for a second. What I am saying is, at times you will learn way more from your failures than you will from your successes. Failing along the way is part of the journey, embrace every “failure” as a learning opportunity- DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED. Analyze the cause of said failure then strategize a new path or solution to achieve your ultimate goal(s). The most important part in the “failing” process is understanding the root cause of the problem. It could be huge or minor, nonetheless once the problem is understood you can then assess all possible solutions and move forward accordingly. Depending on the problem, this could be very easy to do or very difficult, the key when re-stragetigizing is patience. Aha! Good ol’ patience, there it is again, yes it is a virtue. It is also a key element of success, fucking Bill Gates said so.
Told you he said it.
